KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 – The Chile-Malaysia Air Service Agreement signed by both countries in Kuala Lumpur in April 2010 came into international effect on Aug 16 last year, the Chile Embassy in Malaysia said today. The Latin American nation enacted the agreement on March 20. The embassy said the agreement was a modern and open skies legislation that does not restrict the number of flights that an airline wishes to perform to the other country’s territory and encourages competition between companies.

“These rights can be exercised without geographical limit, which acquires great importance given the distance to which Chile and Malaysia are, what it makes necessary that the operations between both countries are carried out with support in other markets,” the embassy said in a statement.

“Likewise, both airlines are already operating in Auckland and Sydney where they can connect their services,” it said. The agreement applies to passenger and cargo flights and cargo-only flights alike.
