Body Of Indonesia Woman Swept Off By Flash Flood In Cameron Highlands Found

Kuantan, Oct 28 – The body of the woman who was swept off by strong current during the flash flood when the Sungai Bertam overflowed following the release of water from the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam, Ringlet, Cameron Highlands on Oct 23, was found this afternoon.

The body of the Indonesian woman, identified as Jawarti, 17, was found in a heap of timber and debris about 2km from the spot where she was reported missing.

According to Cameron Highlands OCPD, DSP Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, the body was found at 12.30pm today, almost one week after Jawarti went missing in the incident.

“The body was found by one of the plantation owners in the area beside the Sungai Bertam, and had been sent to Hospital Sultanah Hajah Kalsom, here for a post-mortem,” he told Bernama, here.

In the incident on Oct 23, three were reported to have died  two from drowning and the other due to a heart attack during the flash flood.

In the incident at 1am, the victim (Jawarti) was reported missing, believed to have been swept off by strong current.

The incident also destroyed about 80 houses and several cars in the Lembah Bertam settlement areas.

The two who had had died of drowning earlier were a Bangladeshi man identified as Jahangir, in his 30’s, and an Indonesian woman only identified Kesmat, 46.

The man who died of a heart attack in the incident was Tan Tuck Choi, 51.

Water from the dam in Ringlet had to be released to prevent the dam from bursting following continuous heavy rain one day before the incident.
