Muhyiddin receives courtesy call from D-8 Secretary-General Dr Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 3- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin received a courtesy call from Developing Eight for Economic Cooperation (D-8) Secretary-General Dr Seyed Ali Mohammaf Mousavi at his office here Wednesday.

Seyed Ali is on two-day visit and this is his first visit since assuming the post in January last year.In a statement later, Muhyiddin said he hoped the visit will strengthen the existing cooperation among D-8 member states and will lead to more pragmatic results in strengthening the ties.

“Malaysia has been committed in our participation within the D-8 cooperative framework since its inception on June 15, 1997 and will remain so through the course of our endeavors in improving the socio-economic development of D-8 member states, ” he said.

Since small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are the main thrust of the private sector, Muhyiddin said the Malaysian government welcomed any efforts towards cooperation among SMEs of D-8 members.

“Malaysia is of the view that D-8 should promote and focus efforts in establishing a network of innovation-driven SMEs to enhance high value-added and knowledge content industries leading to a more empowering framework for FDI and domestic investment, ” he said.

Muhyiddin added that the visit also marked a significant event in the new direction that the organisation aspired to take.The D-8 Organisation comprises Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Nigeria,Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia.
