February 27, 2013- The famous palaces of Jodhpur will stand witness to royal splendour from March 8-10 as Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Jodphur and auction house Bid & Hammer host the first-ever ‘Jodhpur Auction’ of rare antiques from across the world.

The event will be held against the backdrop of the Mehrangarh Fort and Umaid Bhawan Palace and will include selected artworks, heirlooms, sculptures, water colour and oil paintings, jewellery and other heritage treasures. Says Ankush Dadha, director of Bid & Hammer: “All the lots have their own uniqueness, value and are different from one another. We have selected pieces to cater to people with varied tastes.”

Elaborating on the exhibit, he added: “The top draw is the glass-painted jazz screen by 1920s’ artist Etienne Drian and a water colour by the iconic English artist JMW Turner, depicting Srirangapatnam during the death of Tipu Sultan.” The price of these pieces ranges between Rs.2.5 lakh and Rs.6 crore.
