NEW YORK, Sept 24- Spokesperson for the United Nations secretary-general, Martin Nesirky, said that the probable meeting between Iran’s and the United States’ President in New York would be a sensitive and historic event, Iran’s IRNA reported.
In an interview with IRNA at the UN headquarters, Nesirky commented on reports on a possible meeting between Hassan Rohani and Barack Obama on the sidelines of the 68th meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
If both presidents decided to hold a meeting, that would be a highly influential, sensitive and historic event which would top the world news, Nesirky said.
He added that such a meeting could possibly be held on the sidelines of the UN secretary general’s dinner banquet on Tuesday.
According to Nesirky any possible meeting between the two presidents would have enormous effects on regional and international developments.
He also said that meeting of the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the UN chief, Ban Ki-moon, was influential and important.
The UNGA would be held on Tuesday in the presence of heads of state from 193 world countries at the UN headquarters.
