Samy Vellu and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk SK Devamany here indicates the ‘revival’ of Barisan Nasional (BN) in Sungai Siput. Devamany said Samy’s presence has strengthened BN politically while his role in the last two months was to implement the department’s programmes to help the people.

“Of course we work together in Sungai Siput. He (Samy Vellu) strengthens the BN machinery by monitoring polling districts and fosters unity of BN components Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP and IPF for the general election.” Asked about challenges faced by the MIC, Devamany who is also MIC  vice-president said the people want to see change and not listen to rhetoric.

“Has the opposition given good service. Have the hetoric and street protests brought about change for the community?

Devamany said the opposition which claimed to champion national issues had failed to resolve local issues and thus failed the people. In contrast, the BN government image brought by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has made positive impact on the party.

“If we serve the people well, we believe that they will in turn help us again,” he added.

At 2008 general election, Dr D. Jeyakumar of PKR won the Sungai Siput seat beating Samy Vellu of BN and independent Nor Rizan Onn with majority of 1,821 votes.
