Bangalooru – Tan Sri Thambirajah (pic), well known in Malaysia for his untiring efforts in elevating the educational status of Malaysian Indian students through “Sri Murugan Centre” (SMC), has been selected as one of the International recipients of “Bharathiya Samman award”, awarded in conjunction with the annual gathering of Pravasi Bharathiya Diwas (PBD).
Today is the third and final day of PBD 2017, being held in Bangalooru.
Barathiya Samman awards are awarded on the final day of the conference by the President of India to International recipients across the globe selected from NRIs (Non-resident Indians) with illustrious careers.
Thambirajah is the fourth Malaysian recipient of Bharathiya Samman award. Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu, Tan Sri G.Vadiveloo, Tan Sri K.R.Somasundram have so far received the award at the PBD conferences held in the past.
President of India, Pranab Mukerjee will be attending the closing ceremony of the conference today (Monday) at about 5.00 pm (Indian time) and will be felicitating the Barathiya Samman awards to the respective recipients.
