SHAH ALAM, Aug 5- The Selangor government rewarded 338 athletes, team managers and their associations with incentives totalling more that half a million ringgit for emerging as overall champions at this year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma) that was held in Kuala Lumpur recently.
The incentives were given out by Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at a ceremony organised by the state Sports Council here this afternoon.
Selangor won 23 gold, 17 silver and 30 bronze to wrest the overall champions title from defending champions Terengganu.
Selangor gymnast Daniel Iskandar Richard, who won three gold medals, was also named Best Sportsman of the Games.
At the ceremony, 198 athletes received incentives totalling RM451,000, 70 team managers were rewarded a total of RM50,750 while various sports associations were also richer by RM50,750.
The incentives were RM3,500 for winning gold, silver (RM2,000), bronze RM1,000, while the managers and associations were given RM1,000, RM750 and RM500 for gold, silver and bronze respectively.
