MELAKA, Sept 21- The contest for the post of Umno Youth chief at the party election next month will not lead to a break-up among the members of the wing as they are united.
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, believed the members were wise in making a choice, understood democracy in Umno and would not be influenced by negative elements.
“I don’t think so (there is disunity). I contested against an ex-Menteri Besar during the last term and the movement is still strong. Nevertheless, I respect anybody who contests for the post. I see and feel the contest will be far different than that in 2008,” he said.
He said this at a media conference after officiating the closing of the 2013 4th Edition Deputy Prime Minister’s Cup International Silat Championship at Bandar Hilir here Friday night.
The contest for the post was expected to see a three-corner fight between Khairy, Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi and Umno Merbok division former youth chief Karim Ali.
Asked for his vision and mission if he won, Khairy said he would work hard to attract more of the young generation to join Umno.
