Four Kedah MIC Division Chiefs Win Uncontested

ALOR SETAR, Sept 30- Four Kedah MIC division chiefs maintained their positions uncontested at the end of the nomination process at the Sungai Petani MIC Office yesterday.

Eight other divisions face a straight contest for the post at their divisional meetings on Oct 11, 12 and 19.

State MIC deputy chairman M.L. Maran said he won the Baling division uncontested and the other three chiefs to do so were R. Muniandy (Alor Setar), R. Varatharajoo (Pokok Sena) and S. Ganeson (Pendang).

“The eight contested divisions are Kulim/Bandar Baharu, Padang Serai, Sungai Petani, Merbok, Jerai, Kuala Kedah, Langkawi and Kubang Pasu,” he said.

micMeanwhile, in Negeri Sembilan, three out of the eight divisional chiefs retained their positions uncontested after the end of nominations at Wisma MIC Negeri Sembilan in Seremban yesterday.

They were Negeri Sembilan MIC chairman, who is also the Rasah division chief Datuk T.Rajagopalu, Tampin incumbent Datuk S. Rajendran and the new Jelebu chief P. Subramaniam.

Rembau division chief Datuk V.S. Mogan will face G. Kaliamoorthy of the Taman Tuanku Jaafar branch; Telok Kemang division incumbent Datuk M. Veloo is up against MIC state Treasurer Datuk R. Balakrishnan, while Jempol division chief T. Rajan Gopal will be challenged by Jeram Padang assemblyman L. Manickam.

Whereas, state MIC deputy chairman, who is also the Seremban chief, Datuk A. Ganeson is contesting against the division’s former secretary S. Batumalai, and Kuala Pilah division chief A. Anandan has decided to make way for his deputy M. Kalidas.

Kalidas will however face the division’s secretary R. Mahendran.

The nomination process of the MIC divisional elections which started yesterday involved Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Terengganu and Kelantan.

In Kuala Terengganu, Dr Dayal Krishnan retained his divisional chief post uncontested while the Kemaman division is expected to see a three-corner tussle for the title.

State chairman and Kemaman divisional chief R. Suppiah has chosen to withdraw from the contest.

He told Bernama that he also had no desire to hold on to the chairman post which he has held for the past 16 years and wanted to make way for new faces to helm Terengganu MIC.

“We will send the list of nominations tomorrow as it is the weekend here on Friday and Saturday. All decisions will be made by the party leadership,” he said.

He added that the nomination process went smoothly and the state members appeared to accept contests as the norm in politics.

Terengganu’s has a very small Indian community and therefore there are only two party divisions in the state.

In Perak, 10 out of 24 state divisional chiefs have won uncontested at the nomination level at the Sri Subramaniar temple hall, Gunung Cheroh here today.

They were Datuk Dr Vengadesulu from Gerik, G. Nadaraj (Lenggong), V. Sekaran (Padang Rengas), Datuk V. Boopalan (Kuala Kangsar), N. Pencheliah (Parit Buntar), S. Mogan (Parit), Datuk Dr M. Malasingam (Tapah), K. Thankaraj (Pasir Salak), Datuk G.Raju (Ipoh Barat) and Datuk S. Veerasingam (Kampar).

Meanwhile, the Tanjung Malim division is experiencing a three way tussle while the other 13 are in a straight fight.

Perak MIC chairman Datuk R. Ganesan, who will be defending his Ipoh Timur divisional chief post will be up against Dr S. Vasan.
