JOHOR BAHARU, March 18 – The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim(Pic) today made a personal contribution of RM100,000 to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Welfare Fund to be given to families of the fallen heroes in the attack by Sulu terrorists in Lahad Datu and Semporna, Sabah.

3The cheque was handed over by Tunku Laksamana Johor Tunku Abdul Jalil to Johor Police Chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff in a ceremony at the Johor Police Contingent headquarters here. In his speech at the function, Tunku Abdul Jalil said the contribution was small compared with the sacrifices made by the security members concerned in protecting the country’s sovereignty.

He expressed his condolence to families of the security members for the loss of their loved ones and called on the people of Johor to pray for the safety of those on duty in Sabah. Meanwhile, Mohd Mokhtar, in his speech, said the personal contribution by the Sultan reflected his generosity, concern for security and public order, as well as of the people’s well-being.

Although money could not bring back the fallen heroes, the contribution is a recognition of the sacrifices made by the police, he added. Meanwhile in LAHAD DATU, the Sabah 1Malaysia Community (K1M) contributed RM15,000 to help families of members of the security members killed in intrusion by the Sulu terrorists from southern Philippines.

The contribution was handed over by Information Director-General Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and Army field commander Lieutenant General Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim, who represented Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin at the operation headquarters at Felda Sahabat 16.

“Collection is also made in the peninsula and Sarawak and will be given to the families of the fallen heroes as soon as possible,” Ibrahim said when met by reporters.

At the function, the National Heroes Supporters Club was launched to provide support and encouragement to members of the security forces , as well counter negative statements on the security forces. Ibrahim said the club, which now had 6,400 members, was now conducting information sessions, especially in Lahad Datu, on the Sulu terrorist intrusion in Sabah.

“From feedback gathered, the people are satisfied with the explanation given by the club members and are thankful to members of the security forces,” he added.
