KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has refuted allegations that he is the owner or had acquired four hectares of prime land worth millions of Ringgit.
He said the accusation levelled against him was meant to confuse the rakyat and to destroy his reputation and good name.
“If that land really belongs to me, I would have given it away freely.
“However, I am just the original trustee of the land on behalf of the Kelantan Mentri Besar Incorporated (PMBK),” he said.
It was reported that Pasir Mas independent candidate Datuk Ibrahim Alialleged that Nik Aziz and his wife Datin Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak had applied for several lots of land in Bandar Baru Tunjung and Pulau Melaka, and registered it in their names on April 1.
Ibrahim claimed the copies of the documents were sent to him by an unknown source.
State Local Government, Culture and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan defended Nik Abdul Aziz, saying that the land was owned by the PMBK after a direct purchase from an individual between the year 2006 and 2007.
He explained that the land was Malay reserve land.
Since PMBK was not considered “Malay”, under the Kelantan Malay Reservation Enactment 1930, the land purchase would take a long time for the Exco to approve, so it was decided to put Nik Abdul Aziz’s name as the owner of the land, instead.
“To quicken the process of transfer of ownership, the PMBK committee decided to put Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also the PMBK chairman, as the original trustee for the land,” he said.
He also noted that a letter of deed of trust dated Nov 5, 2007 between PMBK and Nik Abdul Aziz, stated Nik Abdul Aziz had to transfer the ownership of the land to anyone as required by law.
He also challenged Ibrahim to lodged a report at the Malaysian Anti Corruption-Commission.
“I challenge him to lodge a report within 24 hours and we will then take the necessary action. I also advised him to check all the facts correctly before making any further statements,” he said.
