JOHOR BAHARU, May 27 – Johor Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) executive secretary R. Yuneswaran pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge with organising a rally without informing the police.
Yuneswaran, 27, is alleged to have failed to inform the South Johor Baharu District Police Chief 10 days prior to the holding of the gathering, known as “Himpunan Black 505”.
The offence was allegedly committed at the PKR office at Jalan Beladau 19, Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram, here about 8.30pm last May 15. The charge under Section 9 (1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 is punishable with a fine of up to RM10,000 under Section 9 (5) of the same Act.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad, who prosecuted, requested bail at RM5,000. However, Yuneswaran’s lawyers, Jimmy Puah and Hassan Abdul Karim, submitted that there was no need for bail as their client was a local, with no previous record and had extended his cooperation during the investigation.
Following which, judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin agreed that bail was not necessary and set June 10 for mention.
