JUNE 4- The interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jagmohan Dalmiya, on Monday said he was still hopeful that its treasurer Ajay Shirke and secretary Sanjay Jagdale would withdraw their resignations.
Addressing media for the first time since assuming charge as the board’s working group chief, Dalmiya said that the BCCI would wait for the two officials’ final decision for one more day.
“It was decided to give Mr Shirke and Mr Jagdale 24 hours to respond on their resignations. We have not received any communication from Mr Shirke. Mr Jagdale has conveyed he has no intentions to withdraw his resignation…We are hopeful. We will wait for 24 hours for their decision,” Dalmiya said.
He, however, said that if there is any vacancy in the board, it would be filled up.
Asked about who would represent the BCCI in the international body ICC, he said, “It is not decided yet as to who will represent BCCI in the ICC. It is my choice if I want to or not.”
Dalmiya refused to accept that the return at the helm was a comeback, saying, “It is not a comeback. I was temporarily given a responsibility so I accepted it.”
“I don’t know what is the capability of Jagmohan Dalmiya. I will not leave any stone unturned to clean cricket,” he said in reply to a question.
