Najib returns home after dialogue, working visit to Tanzania and London

SEPANG, July 11- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), here, today after attending a Global Smart Partnership Dialogue in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and a four-day working visit to the United Kingdom.

The aircraft carrying Najib who was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor arrived at Kompleks Bunga Raya, KLIA at 5.50pm, and was received by leaders from component parties and government officials.

On June 28, the Prime Minister led a 100-member delegation to promote Malaysia-Africa ties, investment and trade further at the Global Smart Partnership Dialogue (GSPD).

The delegation included Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

With the dialogue’s theme of Leveraging Technology for Africa’s Socio-Economic Transformation, Najib shared his transformation programmes to turn Malaysia into a high-income and developed nation by 2020.

Najib joined 14 others heads of state and governments from African countries for the two-day dialogue at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar Es Salaam, the country’s commercial capital.

On the sidelines of the dialogue, Najib also held bilateral meetings with Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse, Algeria Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and Tanzania President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.

After the dialogue Najib arrived in London for a four-day visit, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between both countries, and held a meeting with his counterpart David Cameron.

Najib and his British counterpart David Cameron later jointly launched the ground-breaking ceremony of the eight billion pound (RM38 billion) Battersea Power Station (BPS) project.

The Battersea Project is being developed by Battersea Project Holding Company Ltd, a joint-venture company owned by a Malaysian consortium comprising SP Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP), and is the biggest Malaysian project in the UK.

Najib also attended a media briefing on the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) that would be held in London from Oct 29-31, the first WIEF to be held in a non-Muslim country.

The Prime Minister also launched the IM4U Outreach Centre, a government’s initiative to engage with Malaysians living overseas as well as reaching out to the younger generation.
