Dubai Launches Website To Facilitate Daily Shopping

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17- Dubai’s Department of Economic Development (DED) has launched a website and smart phone application (App) called ‘Sallety’ (My Basket) to ease the process of daily shopping for consumers.

The new facility, which is the first of its kind in the region, will enable consumers to visually browse through shelves of leading hypermarkets and store in Dubai, compare brands and prices and make their purchase decisions from anywhere round the clock through the website, http://www.sallety.ae.

As for the smart phone applications, available on iPhones and Android platforms, this will further expand ease of access and utility of the new advanced technology, besides the potential to build Dubai’s reputation as a shopping destination, DED said in a statement.

DED’s Director General, Sami Al Qamzi said that DED was looking at all possible service channels where it could integrate smart technology to enhance customer convenience.

This was in line with the vision of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Prime Minister and Vice President and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to transform Dubai into an innovative m-Government, he said.

He said that Sallety.ae will complement DED’s efforts in this direction.

Chief Executive Officer, Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector in DED, Omar Bushabab, said since the UAE has a high broadband and smart phone penetration rate Sallety.ae will be a handy shopping option for a significant section of the residents.

“Our objective is to make Sallety.ae a one-stop shop and virtual mall that fully respect and protect consumer rights, including their right to information and freedom of choice. Consumers now have the privilege of having all [the] required information related to their daily shopping on their fingertips,” Mushabab added.
