NEW DELHI, July 17 – At least 20 children died and 80 others fell sick after consuming mid-day meal at a government primary school in Saran district of Bihar, a northern Indian state.

India Today Online reported that the death toll is likely to go up since many children, admitted in different hospitals after the incident on Tuesday, are fighting for their lives.

A woman cook was also said to be in critical condition.
The children, students of Navsrijit Primary School, Dharmasati, started vomiting after eating their mid-day meal.
The report said that although the exact cause of the food poisoning has yet to be known, adulterated oil could be the reason.
