PETALING JAYA, Aug 26 – The Sessions Court today set Sept 26 for mention of the case of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who faces a charge over the ‘Blackout 505’ rally held in May.

Nik-Nazmi1Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz set the date after Nik Nazmi’s counsel Eric Paulsen informed the court that an application had been filed in the Shah Alam High Court on Wednesday to strike out the charge faced by his client.

Nik Nazmi, 31, was charged on May 17 with failing to give the Petaling Jaya OCPD 10 days’ notice on the ‘Blackout 505’ rally held at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium in Kelana Jaya.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at the stadium at about 8.30 pm on May 8. Nik Nazmi had pleaded not guilty.

Eric told reporters outside the court that the application had been filed on the grounds that the charging of his client smacked of politics, double standard and selective prosecution.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin appeared for the prosecution.
