KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 – A total of 32 ‘Blackout 505’ rally participants arrested for charging at the police at the entrance of Parliament building yesterday were released from Jinjang police station early yesterday morning.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the participants including three women were released in stages with the last at 2am after their statements were recorded.
“They are being investigated under Section 9 (5) and Section 4 (2) (C) of the Peaceful Assembly Aman 2012 and Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting,” he said in a SMS to Bernama yesterday.
Those released on police bail include Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia chairman Badrul Hisham Shaharin and student activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
“Action has to be taken against them for charging at the police barricade to enter the parliament compound.
“We view this matter seriously because some police personnel on duty were hurt in the scuffle that ensued.”
Ku said the police would conduct investigation on the participants before submitting a report to the Attorney-General’s Chamber for further action.
The rally was considered illegal because police were not notice given ten days notice as stated in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
About 200 ‘Blackout 505’ participants tried to gatecrash parliament during the swearing-in of members of parliament on monday.
In the incident, a senior police officer from Sentul station was hurt in the right eye and nose while a policeman from Dang Wangi station suffered a broken tooth, sprained thumb and left hand.
