Kuala Besut assemblyman DR.A Rahman Mokhtar dies

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 26 – The State Assemblyman for Kuala Besut, Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar, died of lung cancer at the Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ), here at 10.18 this morning.

Terengganu Health Director, Datuk Dr Anwa Sulaiman, when confirming the matter, said Dr A.Rahman was admitted to HSNZ last Thursday but his condition later became critical and he had to use a respiratory machine to breathe.

“Dr A. Rahman had to use the respiratory machine this morning when his condition worsened and he was confirmed dead at 10.18am at the HSNZ,” he said when approached by reporters, here today.

rahman abdulDr A. Rahman, 55, was also the Terengganu State Exco for Health, Women and Community Development.

In the 13th general election (GE13), Dr A. Rahman won with a majority of 2,434 votes to beat the PAS candidate, Napisah Ismail.

Dr A.Rahman, who is survived by his wife and four children, is expected to be buried at the Teluk Bayu Mosque Cemetery in Kuala Besut after the Zohor prayers today.

The death of the Kuala Besut Assemblyman is expected to result in the first by-election after the GE13.

In the GE13, the Barisan Nasional formed the Terengganu state government with a simple majority when it won 17 of the 32 State Assembly seats.

Meanwhile in    KUALA LUMPUR, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said confirmed the death to reporters after attending the meeting of the Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara.
