KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10- Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin today hoped that members of the movement will give him the mandate again to defend his post in the party election next month.
He said he was hoping for the renewed mandate as there were still many things that he had to attend to as head of the movement.
“I am now going down to meet Youth members at the grassroots level. Thankfully, the reception (from them) has been positive. They know of my track record,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Minggu Haluan Siswa Pelajar Baharu’ at the International Islamic University, Malaysia at the Gombak Campus, near here.
Asked on the possibility that he would be challenged for the post, Khairy, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, said he knew nothing about it because nominations would only start at the end of the month.
Khairy was elected the Umno Youth Head for the 2008/2011 term after obtaining 304 votes to beat Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo (254 votes) and Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir (232 votes).
The election for top posts in the Wanita, Youth and Puteri Umno wings will be held next month.
