New Delhi, Oct 28 – India is planning to lay 14 railway lines near the borders of Pakistan and China to facilitate movement of troops, Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
The railway lines are in addition to 73 roads currently being constructed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, sources said Sunday.
The railway lines have been planned in Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.
Of the 73 roads measuring 3,812 km in total, 61 roads will be constructed in Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Defence Minister A K Antony said in Parliament last month that the government had taken steps to safeguard national security while seeking a peaceful solution to the long-standing boundary disputes between India and China.
“I have no hesitation to say that China is in a better position than India in terms of border infrastructure.
“After years of neglect, we are fast developing capabilities near the Chinese border including building of roads, raising of two mountain divisions and setting up new airfields and landing grounds,” he said.
