India sends humanitarian aid to people of Palestine

New Delhi : India on Sunday 22 October 2023 dispatched humanitarian aid to Palestine, which includes medical supplies and disaster relief materials. The medical supplies consist of essential life-saving medications and protective and surgical items to address emergency medical needs, with a focus on wound care.

Additionally, fluids and painkillers are part of the aid for immediate relief. The disaster relief materials, weighing around 32 tons, include tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, basic sanitary utilities, and water purification tablets.

An Indian Air Force C17 aircraft departed from the Hindon airbase, heading to Egypt’s El-Arish airport, carrying these relief supplies. The aid aims to assist the people of Palestine during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Earlier on Friday 19 October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation today with the President of Palestine, H.E. Mr. Mahmoud Abbas. Prime Minister conveyed deep condolences over the loss of civilian lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza.

Highlighting traditionally close and historic ties between India and this region, Prime Minister expressed deep concern at terrorism, violence and deteriorating security situation in the region. He reiterated India’s long-standing and principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue.

President Mahmoud Abbas shared his assessment of the situation. He thanked Prime Minister for India’s support and appreciated India’s position. Prime Minister of India conveyed that India will continue to send humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people.
