Bangkok, Feb 20- Anti-government protesters, emboldened by their action to thwart a move by the authorities to remove them from protest sites yesterday, began looking for Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra this morning.
Led by their leader, Suthep Thaugsuban, thousands of the protesters headed towards her temporary office at the Permanent Secretary for Defence Office in Muang Thong Thani, as their first step.
Suthep and other key leaders of the protesters called on the authorities not to allow Yingluck to use the office as her temporary office, warning that if Yingluck still came to work at the office, they would stage a protest rally at the office daily or set up camp there.
The protest leaders spoke with the office head, Gen Apichart Saengrungrueng for about 30 minutes.
They also plan to go to the Police Sport Club where Centre For Maintaining Peace and Order – which directed the removal of the protesters – to demonstrate at nearby buildings owned by the Shinawatra family.
Yingluck’s whereabouts are unknown but the protesters are looking for her.
Suthep led thousands of demonstrators from the Ratchaprasong intersection rally from 10am this morning, to track down Yingluck’s whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the authorities have called off a plan to remove protesters from protest sites today, following violence-filled clashes yesterday, in which four people were killed.
The decision to call off the plan was announced by National Security Council chief Lt Gen Paradorn Pattanathabutr.
He said the government was prepared to impose the Internal Security Act, instead of the emergency decree, if the Civil Court ruled to revoke the decree.
The Civil Court was scheduled to rule on emergency decree at 3pm yesterday.
