Kuala Lumpur, Feb 22 -The new school-based assessment (PBS) application system will reduce the burden and duties of teachers after it has been improved, said Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.

He said the system was now undergoing the process of study and improvement and expected to be completed by another two to three weeks before it could be implemented.

“Based on the response we received, many have said it burdened the teachers besides having issues related to information technology (ICT), connectivity and accessibility.

“All these matters will be looked at from an overall view and the study being undertaken takes into consideration the views and opinions of all quarters,” he told reporters after a forum titled ‘Siri Wacana Fikrah Ummah: Ulul Albab dalam Pembangunan Pendidikan Negara’, in Kuala Lumpur, Thursday.

Idris was asked to comment on the PBS study after its implementation was postponed for a review as announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently.

The system, which involved a transformation from that of an examination based to a more holistic educational assessment, was alleged to burden teachers after it was often interrupted, compelling students’ data to be entered late in the night.

Idris said PBS was a good system that faced difficulties only from the implementation aspect but that could be improved.

On another issue, he said the ministry had implemented the Ulul Albab education programme in three secondary schools in Pahang, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur this year.

He said these schools were now using the Ulul Albab teaching model that integrated the existing education in pure science with religious stream programmes.
