Melaka, Oct 25 -Unity and strength of the party machinery, accurate reports and action taken according to the wants of the grassroots are three main factors that can ensure Barisan Nasional (BN) wins in the upcoming Sungai Limau by-election in Kedah, according to Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Idris Haron.
The state Umno liaison chief said the outcome of the recent Umno elections showed the strength of the respective campaign machinery for their candidates of choice, especially for the three vice-president posts.
He said such election machinery strength should be pooled and replicated to capture the Sungai Limau state seat in the upcoming by-election. Idris was met by reporters after the investiture ceremony held here today in conjunction with the 75th birthday of the Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
On the accurate report factor, Idris said the party machinery must provide accurate reports on the situation on the ground to the by-election BN command centre and not only reports that were nice to hear.
He said ground reports that were disappointing must be revealed so that new or contingency plans could be implemented early in order to garner as much support as possible.
He added that party leaders and ordinary members must go to the ground to meet the grassroots in order to know what the grassroots wanted and do the needful according to their wants.
Melaka Umno has sent 80 party members to help BN campaign, specifically in Kampung Titian Batu, for the Sungai Limau by-election which will see a straight fight between BN candidate Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim and PAS candidate Mohd Azam Samat.
