KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has extended his condolences to the family of former DAP chairman and Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh who died in a road accident early today.
The prime minister said he heard the news about Karpal’s demise on his arrival in Ankara to begin an official visit to Turkey.
“I have just landed at Ankara when I heard the news that YB Karpal Singh died in a road accident. My condolences to the family,” the prime minister said on his Twitter account.
Najib’s visit to Turkey was at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Foreign Ministry said.
Also killed in the 1.10 am accident was Karpal Singh’s personal assistant, Michael Cornelius.
Police said the white Toyota Alphard MPV carrying Karpal Singh, 74, and four other people from Kuala Lumpur to Penang was involved in the collision with a lorry that moved slowly ahead of it at a hilly stretch of the North-South
Expressway, near Gua Tempurung in Kampar.
