Ghatal, May 9 – Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, at a rally in West Bengal on Thursday, said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wore slippers made with the Made in China tag. “The slippers which Mamata-ji wears has Made in China written on it. We want that to change it to Made in India,” he said in Ghatal Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal.
Attacking the Trinamool Congress chief, he said: “Mamta-ji talks about helping poor people but I see no changes here. The money sent by the Central government does not reach the people here.” He then accused the Trinamool of indulging in violence. “If you are a worker of any other party in Bengal, they will be beaten by the TMC.”
On the Congress earlier supporting the Trinamool government, he said: “When we started working with the TMC, we thought we will usher in change. But only the red flag (of the Left Front) was replaced by the green flag (of the TMC). That’s all.”
He also targetted Mamata Banerjee over the Saradha scam. “Twenty lakh people lost their money in the chit fund scam in West Bengal,” he said. “She gives big speeches but corruption continues in the state,” he said.
