New Delhi, June 6 – Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) member Sumitra Mahajan arrives at the Indian Parliament today in New Delhi, India.
Sumitra Mahajan, 71, was unanimously elected speaker of the Indian Parliament.
Mahajan is the second woman and the first member of the BJP to become speaker of the Lok Sabha or lower house of parliament.
She succeeds Meira Kumar of the Indian National Congress party.
It is the eighth consecutive term of the veteran parliamentarian in the Lok Sabha.
