KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has extended his condolences to the family of Gareth David Huntley.
The 34-year-old Briton was reported missing on Tioman island on May 27. The body of the volunteer at the Kampung Juara Turtle Conservation Centre was found last Wednesday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Gareth Huntley, his family and friends at this tragic time,” the prime minister tweeted.
Earlier Saturday, Pahang police chief Datuk Sharifuddin Ab Ghani confirmed that the body of a man found in Sungai Mentawak, near the Lagoon Chalet at Kampung Juara, was that of Huntley.
This was based on positive DNA test results involving a blood sample from Huntley’s mother, Janet Southwell, and a specimen taken from the body.
Southwell flew to Malaysia while search efforts for her son were underway.
