KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today a social media report that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would resign from the Cabinet is a political provocation by certain quarters.
He said he had the best of relations and understanding with Muhyiddin.
“As the deputy prime minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has always backed and brought to fruition all national policies and development agendas of the national transformation programme initiated by me,” he said in a statement.
Najib said that as the Umno deputy president and Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman, Muhyiddin had worked well with him in all aspects to strengthen and enhance the struggles of Umno and the BN and that this was an ongoing effort which demanded much more to be done by him and Muhyiddin.
“With the very good relations and understanding between me and Muhyiddin, I am convinced that we can face all the challenges to develop the nation and raise the people’s trust in the BN leadership,” he said.
Blogs and other social media websites have reported the possibility of Muhyiddin resigning from the Cabinet to focus on efforts to strengthen Umno.
These reports came about also due to the talk of an impending Cabinet reshuffle by Najib to bring in leaders from BN component parties MCA and Gerakan.
Muhyiddin said yesterday he would continue to serve as the deputy prime minister so long as his services were required and that so far nothing had been raised with regard to that position.
