Government will re-double efforts to repatriate remaining victims of doomed MH17 – Liow

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23- The government will re-double its efforts and continue to work closely with the Netherlands Government to ensure the remaining victims of the doomed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 are repatriated.Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said Malaysians should remember those (remains) who had yet to be reconciled with their family members.

In a statement, he said this was the second time he had been present to receive the remains of the victims of Flight MH17, having had similar experience in the Netherlands, following the crash last month.

“Indeed, this is an emotional time for all Malaysians, and I am personally touched by the outpouring of support and prayers, both during today’s solemn ceremony marking the day of national mourning, and in the Netherlands when the first remains arrived,” he added.

Liow hoped family members would be able to find some measure of solace in these tough times from Malaysians unified in strength while at the same time, he offered his deepest sympathies and condolences to one and all affected by the tragedy.

Twenty Malaysian bodies arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 9.54am on board Flight MH6129 from Amsterdam piloted by Captain Datuk Misman Leham.
Flight MH17, which was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 298 passengers, including 15 crew members, was believed to have been shot down in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine on July 17.
