KEPALA BATAS, May 29 – Local research institutions must be more progressive in their cooperation with industrial players to turn the country into a leader in the production of halal vaccines.
Terengganu National Fatwa Council member Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri (photo) said it was time the alliances and joint ventures which had been fostered be improved for the benefit of Muslims.
“We are on the right track. Due to government efforts, there are now medical practitioners and pharmacists carrying out researches which are more directed tothe production of halal vaccines.
“However, in terms of timeliness, it is difficult to expect, but we already have facilities such as research laboratories at institutions of higher learning and expertise which can help achieve the aspiration,” he told reporters here today.
Zulkifli had earlier tabled two working papers at a 2013 national-level Islamic Medicine and Medical Fiqh Issues Convention here today.
The two-day convention, beginning May 29, and organised by International Muslim Aid Malaysia is attended by 530 participants comprising medical practitioneers and experts, government departments and agencies and individuals peninsula-wide.
Zulkilfi also did not rule out that research in medicine required a large amount of funds.
