PETALING JAYA, June 23 — The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will tighten its control at the Parliament Building to ensure smooth running of the swearing in ceremony of Members of Parliament (MPs) tomorrow.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said although the Parliament Building is open to the public, the police did not want any situation that could cause inconveniences to the MPs to enter Dewan Rakyat.
“Of course we will ensure that the MPs’ movement will not be disturbed by anything or anyone,” he told reporters after attending the crime awareness campaign here today.
All the 222 elected MPs will take their oath of office at the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow.
The first meeting of the first term of the 13th Parliament will begin tomorrow until July 18, while the Senate sitting is scheduled to be held for nine days beginning June 25.
Meanwhile, Khalid said no other arrest was made so far under the Sedition Act 1948 after that involving PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa and former Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) student yesterday.
Nevertheless, he advised the public to think twice before making any seditious statements that could affect national security and public order.
“Like I said before, don’t issue any fatwa (edicts) that might worry or confuse the public. Of course action will be taken.
“We will propose for them (Husam and former UiTM student) to be charged under the Sedition Act. They are now remanded to facilitate probe before we can submit the investigation paper to the Attorney-General,” he said.
Husam, 54, was detained at 4pm yesterday in Kampung Pandan, Ampang, Selangor after PAS’ organ Harakahdaily last Sunday quoted him as saying that if any protester died during yesterday’s Black 505 (an opposition) rally at Padang
Merbok in Kuala Lumpur, he would be deemed as a martyr.
The 23-year-old UiTM student, on the other hand, was detained in front of his house in Klang, Selangor yesterday in connection with a posting on his blog instigating the people to attack the security force at the rally at Padang Merbok in the capital.
