KUALA LUMPUR, June 29- Sime Darby Industrial has been awarded contracts worth RM80 million by PSA Singapore Terminals, the world’s largest container transhipment hub.

The contracts will see Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Sime Darby and The Netherlands-based Terberg Group supplying a total of 299 units Terberg terminal tractors with options for another 330 units.

In a statement today, its Managing Director Chong Kwea Seng said Terberg terminal tractors are renowned for being reliable and efficient, which are two imperative qualities in port operations.

sime-darby“The award of these contracts is very significant to us, as PSA’s requirements are the benchmark of the world’s port industry. This signifies the standards and quality of the products that they use for their operations,” he said.

The first delivery to PSA will comprise 49 Terberg terminal tractors starting from May 2013 with the remaining units to be delivered by February 2014.

Chong said the award of the contract was a result of the company’s continuous product development with its principal, Terberg Benschop, and PSA on existing units already in use.

“On the business front, we are bullish on the outlook for terminal tractors in 2013. There are strong growth prospects in the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia,” he said.

“We look forward to strengthening our presence in these markets and tap into new ones such as Taiwan and Pakistan,” he added.
