ALOR GAJAH, July 31- Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal today reminded party members keen to contest for posts in the coming party election to do so with an intention of strengthening the party.
The Rural and Regional Development Minister said they should not use democracy as an excuse for them to do so if their action could weaken Umno and cause a split among members.
“If the contest is healthy and capable of yielding something positive for Umno, go ahead, but if it is for personal interest and not for the party’s struggle, it is wrong because it will only invite a rift, like what we went through before,” he told reporters after the breaking of fast at the Alor Gajah Mara Junior Science College here Tuesday.
Also present were Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi and Mara chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
