SEREMBAN, Aug 21- Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan last night launched the state-level “Fly the Malaysian Flag” campaign in conjunction with National Day and called on the people to maintain unity at all costs.
He said unity among the people had helped to make Malaysia what it was today – a country blessed with peace and progress.
“Let us remain united for it is this unity that will ensure our continued well-being in the future,” he said at the launch of the campaign at Dataran Senawang, here.
Also present at the event were State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Dr Awaludin Said and state secretary Datuk Mat Ali Hassan.
Mohamad said the peace the people enjoyed now was achieved after major sacrifices by the nation’s freedom fighters, including the security forces.
“People of our generation must be thankful to those freedom fighters whose sacrifices have given us independence and freedom from colonial rule.
“We must also be thankful for the peace that we enjoy, unlike the turmoil that we see in many other countries,” he said.
Mohamad urged the people to fly the Malaysian flag at their homes and on their cars in a show of patriotism.
At the event, the menteri besar handed over the Malaysian flag in a symbolic gesture to more than 400 heads of state and federal government departments, representatives of Barisan Nasional component parties and non-governmental organisations as well as community leaders.
