The local councils in the state had then issued letters to cinema company Golden Screen Cinema, directing them not to show the movie.

The movie that encapsulates the close relations of second Prime Minister Tun Razak Hussein and his deputy, Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, hit the cinemas nationwide yesterday after a one-year delay due to allegations that it portrayed the DAP badly.

tanda-putera-thumbnailLim, who is also DAP secretary-general, clarified yesterday that the letters were only an advisory and not a ban against the movie directed by Shuhaimi Baba.

However, he said Penang would clear the air about the misrepresentation of facts in the movie that depicted the DAP as among the culprits responsible for triggering the May 13, 1969 racial riots.

He added that the film had crossed a red line in using public funds to propagate lies that promoted hatred instead of harmony between the various races.

Lim pointed out that the DAP received bad publicity in the movie which was totally disregarded by the BN-led federal government that applied pressure for the film to be screened.

“In contrast, those aligned to the BN federal government has threatened to close down cinema operators and other forms of legal action if Tanda Putera is not screened.
