Kuala Lumpur, Dec 7- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak flagged off the ‘Young Warriors Flood Ops’ special convoy to hand out contributions and aid to flood victims in Pahang, Terengganu, Johor and Kelantan.
The convoy, under the initiative of Umno Youth, took off from the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) grounds here, involving 30 units of four-wheel-drive (4X4) vehicles and three lorries carrying about 4,000 boxes of daily necessities such as rice, milk and mineral water worth RM600,000 for the flood victims.
Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin said 100 Umno Youth volunteers would go down on the ground to assist about 1,000 volunteers who had already gone to the affected states.
“Although we are at the Umno general assembly, it does not mean that we are insensitive or not channelling aid,” he said when met after the convoy flagging-off ceremony.
He said the volunteers would continue to be in the affected areas until the floods had receded.
“The volunteers will also assist the victims to clean up their homes,” he added.
