Kuala Lumpur, Dec 20 – Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS) plans to install 300 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) next year, bringing the total to 500 MEPS ATMs by the end of 2014.

The Interbank network service provider successfully deployed its 200th unit at a Petronas station along Persiaran Zaaba, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, thus meeting the company’s target for the year.

Group Managing Director Zulkanain Kassim said the new breed of ATMs offered more than cash withdrawals and balance inquiry.

“It provides real-time interbank funds transfer, credit card and loan repayment, which are in-line with the government’s Economic Transformation Programme and support towards Bank Negara Malaysia’s e-payment agenda,” he said in a statement.

Malaysia’s first non-bank ATM, deployed earlier this year, was officially launched by Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim on Oct 21, 2013.

It is currently serving the states of Johor, Kedah, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Selangor and the Federal Territory.
