Kuala Lumpur, Dec 24- The people should not blame Umno for the increase in the price of consumer goods and cost of living, according to Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad.
Isa, who is also Telok Kemang Umno chief, said the increase in the price of consumer goods, as well as cost of living, could not be avoided by any ruling government.
As such, he said the people must try to understand and accept the increase as it was due to the uncertain global economic situation.
“It cannot be avoided, why should we get angry with Umno? No matter how angry we are with Umno, the price and the cost (of living) will keep rising…so, let’s not get too emotional.
“We are asking the people to understand why the cost is rising, why the subsidy gradualisation needs to be done, that is to control our economic situation,” he told reporters when asked whether Umno would be blamed and punished by the voters in the next general election for the increase in the price of consumer goods and cost of living.
Earlier, Isa opened the graduation ceremony of students of Kolej Yayasan Felda at Menara Felda here today.
When asked about the statement of Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), claiming that that they would replace Umno should Umno fail to defend the rights of Malays and Bumiputeras in the country, Isa said Perkasa had no right to make such a statement.
While describing that the statement was emotional and not rational, Isa said the responsibility shouldered by Umno to protect the Malay rights was indeed very heavy.
