PAS-Logo-SliderKUALA TERENGGANU, May 13  — Terengganu PAS has called for a dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly to give an opportunity to the people to choose a new government in the state.

State PAS commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat said a new election in the state was necessary as the Barisan Nasional (BN) had only 14 State Assembly seats, PAS (14), PKR (1) and Independent (3) currently.

“We propose that newly appointed Menteri Besar (Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman), who no longer commands the majority to rule, dissolves the State Legislative Assembly as this is more gentlemanly,” he told reporters at a media conference, here today.

Asked about PAS’s confidence in winning the state election if the State Assembly was dissolved, Satiful said PAS was confident of winning the people’s vote based on political developments in the country which was more favourable to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

Earlier today, former Terengganu Menteri Besar and Kijal State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Ajil Assemblyman Ghazali Taib and Bukit Besi Assemblyman Roslee Daud declared that they were leaving Umno and becoming Independent assemblymen.

The announcement came after Ahmad resigned as the menteri besar yesterday and Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman was sworn in as the new menteri besar last night.

The last time PAS ruled Terengganu was in 1999 (1999-2004) besides holding power in 1959 (1959-1960).
In the 13th general election on May 5 last year, BN won with a simple majority of 17 seats out of the 32 seats in the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly.
