PUTRAJAYA, October 10 – The approval of permits for Malaysian humanitarian relief non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to enter Gaza through the Rafah border crossing has been temporarily postponed.
Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement today said that in view of the volatility of the security situation in the Gaza Strip, the Palestine Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, had notified that the approval of permits been temporarily postponed.
“The postponement was implemented due to security and safety concerns for delegations visiting the Gaza Strip,” it said.Wisma Putra said that the Malaysian Government remained committed in providing and facilitating assistance to ease the plight of the Palestinian people.
“Malaysia hopes that the postponement of approval for Malaysian relief NGOs to enter the Gaza Strip through Rafah would be lifted in the near future to enable delivery of aid to those affected by the conflict in Palestine,” it said.
