MIC moves into 3rd phase divisional re-elections from 18 September

MIC Logo and FlagKuala Lumpur – Having successfully completed first 2 phases of elections as directed by Registrar of Societies (RoS), MIC has now embarked on its 3rd phase of divisional re-elections.

The first phase of re-elections witnessed more than 2,800 MIC branches successfully completing their branch elections. The second phase was the MIC Presidential election whereby Dato Seri Dr S.Subramaniam was unanimously elected as the 9th President of MIC.

The MIC 2009 Interim CWC meeting held on 26th of August decided to hold the divisional elections from 18 September onwards.

MIC sources said notices are being sent out to divisional congresses informing them of the CWC decision.

Four states namely, Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu and Johor will have their nominations for the divisional elections on Friday 18th September 2015. In the event of contests elections will take place on the 25th of September.

Another five states namely Melaka, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Wilayah Persekutuan are scheduled to hold their nominations for divisional elections on the next day, Saturday 19th September 2015. In the event of contests, elections will take place on 26th September.

Selangor, Pahang, Sabah and Perlis will hold their respective nominations on the 20th of September 2015. In the event of contests elections will take place on 27th September.

Meanwhile, several candidates interested in CWC and Vice- Presidential positions at national level have already started their campaign rounds among MIC branches.

However, the intensity of the campaign is expected to increase after the divisional elections as only then the delegates to the General Assembly would have been elected.

MIC sources said battles are brewing up in several divisions since many divisional leaders supporting former President Palanivel failed to file their respective branch nominations which have left vacancies in many divisions.

The MIC General Assembly and the simultaneous re-election for 23 CWC members, 3 Vice Presidents and a Deputy President is expected to take place in October 2015.
