KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 – Malaysian pilot Captain James Anthony Tan will embark on a 50-day expedition known as 1Malaysia Around The World (1RTW) using a single engine aircraft, kicking off from Langkawi on Tuesday. Tan, 21, will be flying 22,000 nautical miles to 20 countries, including Asean countries, Russia, United States, Canada, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Italy, France and United Kingdom.
Born with dyslexia and awarded “The Youngest Malaysian to fly a Single Engine Piston Aircraft in an Expedition” by the Malaysia Book of Records in 2012, Tan told reporters today that he hoped his efforts would leave a legacy to others, especially the youth, to be daring to do the impossible.
The solo flight is expected to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA).
