Malaysia-ParliamentKuala Lumpur – Four new Senators are expected to be named by MIC on or before the commencement of the budget session of Dewan Negara. The Budget session will commence on the 4th of December and end on 19th December 2017.

Datuk R.Goonasakaren, currently serving as the State Chairman of MIC Pahang State Coordination Committee was not reappointed to his position when his Senate term expired on 22 June 2017. In June 2017,  terms of two Senators representing MIC, namely Datuk V.Subramamaniam and A.Sivapakiam expired as they had completed their mandatory two terms of 3 years each.

MIC-Logo-SliderMIC Vice President Datuk Jaspal Singh has also served two terms as a Senator and his term expired as of November 2017.

There have been no official announcements from MIC leadership on the new Senate appointments. However, MIC sources are speculating on several names as the next possible Senators.

MIC Vice President Datuk T.Mohan, MIC Women leader Datuk Mohana Muniandy, MIC Youth leader Datuk Sivarrajh Chandran, MIC Secretary-General Datuk A.Sakthivel, MIC Treasurer General Datuk Seri  S.Vel Paari and MIC national information chief Datuk V.S.Mohan are some of the names being tossed around as potential candidates to fill the vacant Senate positions.

MIC sources pointed out that the 4 Senate positions are expected to go to some of these leaders as all of them are holding national party positions without any government positions.

Several divisional leaders and CWC members are also said to be lobbying heavily for the vacant Senate positions but this time around national elected or appointed leaders are expected to be given priority in view of the forthcoming general election.

It is also not known whether all the 4 vacant Senate positions would be filled by the 4th of December 2017 (commencement of next budget session of Dewan Negara).

There are also speculations that some of the Senate appointments could be deferred to a later date, to synchronise with the finalisation of potential MIC candidates for the 14th General election.
