mohanKLANG, April 30 – Declaring that he would fulfill all his promises, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Seri Andalas state seat T. Mohan said he would focus on poverty eradication in the constituency.

As such, Mohan said he would create a more systematic voters’ profile for the constituency so that all the planned development could be implemented smoothly.

“A systematic voters’ profile is needed so that no voter is missed out, which can be an issue in the coming election.

“This will be my first task if elected, as a systematic voters’ profile will help me to identify those who are below the poverty line and need assistance,” he told Bernama.

Mohan, 40, said he intended to open more tuition centres in Seri Andalas to cater to the education needs of the surrounding community in the area, besides establishing a Tamil school in Taman Sentosa.

He said he had already opened two tuition centres in Perdana Villa and Bandar Puteri in Seri Andalas which offered free tuition to pupils of Standard One to Form Five.

Mohan, who is also MIC Youth chief, has also promised to reduce the crime rate in Seri Andalas, if elected, noting that it has reduced over the past two months due to his initiative in resolving the problem. He said he was working round-the-clock to meet as many voters as possible to try and win the hearts and minds of the 56,806 voters in the constituency, adding that he had easily met about 25,000 voters in over two months.

Seri Andalas is among the state seats locked in a five-way contest in this election, featuring PKR’s Dr Xavier Jayakumar, and three independents — K. S. Kottappan, Hanafiah Husin and P. Uthayakumar, besides Mohan, a first-time aspirant for the seat.

Of the electorate, Malays make up 39 per cent, Indians (35 per cent) and Chinese (24 per cent). In the last general election, Xavier defeated BN’s A. Komala Ganapathy from the MIC by a 10,203-vote majority.
