Tony-300x202PETALING JAYA: AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes today denied allegations that his airline had helped to ferry foreigners into the peninsula from East Malaysia.

He stated on his Twitter site that he had personally gone through the manifest for the flights and confirmed that there were no foreigners.

“Assuming all flights were full, 780 people would have flown in from Johor Baru to Kota Kinabalu. But the official manifest only shows 478 people were carried,” he said.

“Everyone who travelled on the flight were Malaysians. Mostly, Sabahans living in Johor Baru and my staff have confirmed that the majority were families,” he added.

Fernandes also explained that he wanted to be back in Malaysia before he could confirm the allegations and that was the cause behind his late reply.

“I wanted to come home and see it for myself. It would be easier to explain to all Malaysians when I am back here,” he said.

“I refused to comment without seeing the evidence and I also thought it was important that I consulted my staff first,” he added.

He also extended an invitation to Bersih’s chairperson S Ambiga to come and check the situation for herself if necesarry.

“No issues at all. Ambiga can come herself. Nobody wants a free and fair election more than I do; only then the country will progress with democracy,” he said.

Fernandes also posted a photo on twitter of him after sucessfully casting his vote, proudly showing off his finger covered in indelible ink.
