GEORGE TOWN, May 17- The Kongres India Muslim Malaysia (KIMMA) or Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress in appealing to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to consider appointing a representative from the party to the new cabinet.
Penang KIMMA Liaison Committee chairman, Faruk Raju Mohamed said this would be in recognition of the party’s contribution in drawing support from the Indian Muslim community for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the recent 13th general election, and to enable the community’s voice to be heard at the federal level.
“We humbly appeal to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s good office to consider offering our representative a deputy minister post in whichever ministry deemed suitable,” he said, adding that KIMMA’s presence in the cabinet would further boost BN’s efforts to serve the people better.
He said a resolution to request a deputy minister post for KIMMA was made at its 36th National Convention on Oct 13, last year and that the prime minister had received the resolution.
Faruk said KIMMA would be sending an appeal letter on its request to the prime minister soon.
He said there were currently about 675,000 Indian Muslims throughout the country, while KIMMA had 285,000 members nationwide including 12,000 in Penang.
