Samy VelluKUALA LUMPUR, May 28 – Former MIC President Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu today cautioned aspiring candidates in the forthcoming MIC elections to not drag him into their political battle, saying he would make his choice of who should lead the party at the right time.

“Don’t drag me into your war,” he told Bernama today. He said he would go down to campaign strongly for whoever he felt was the right person to lead the party, later.

Samy Vellu said this in response to a Bernama report earlier today on the possibility of MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam going for the top post in the 67-year-old party.

It was also said in the report that Samy Vellu, the longest-serving MIC president who stepped down in 2010, had his “green light” to Dr Subramaniam, against the backdrop of a democratic party constitution.

Meanwhile, MIC vice-president Datuk M. Saravanan denied having had any discussion with either MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel or Subramaniam in relation to the MIC polls.

“As of now, I’m not talking (about the polls) to either of them, Subramaniam or Palanivel,” he said.

However, Saravanan said he would consider contesting the No. 2 post, subject to the decision and support of the party delegates.
